The victim, Jaspreet Kaur (27) from Sangatpura village in Samrala, reported that she had been friend with the accused, Harshpreet Singh, for the past five years. She mentioned that she frequently visited his home but had distanced herself in recent months after discovering his drug use.

According to Jaspreet, on August 26, Harshpreet persistently called her to his home. After repeated requests, she finally agreed to visit. Upon arriving, she claims that in a fit of rage, Harshpreet extracted petrol from his bike, poured it on her, and set her on fire using a lighter. She managed to extinguish the flames with a blanket from a nearby room.

Following which when Jaspreet called ‘108’ Ambulance for help, the accused Harshpreet also set him ablaze. Later, the ambulance turned up and took both Harshpreet and Jaspreet to Civil Hospital in Khanna.

After police recorded the victim’s statement, Jaspreet stated that Harshpreet intended to kill her.

The Khanna City police station has registered a case against Harshpreet Singh under Section 109 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the police, both Jaspreet and Harshpreet are at present referred to government in Chandigarh.
