A Barnala based resident assaulted his wife, 7-year-old daughter and brother-in-law with acid after barging into his wife’s maternal home in village Gobindgarh of Focal Point area in Ludhiana.
In the incident, the accused’s wife identified as Jatinder Kaur and her brother Harjinder Singh suffered burn injuries on their face and some other body parts while the 7-year-old girl received very minor injuries after coming in contact with acid splashed by her father.
However, the Focal point police have arrested the accused identified as Rajveer Singh (36) of village Kalal Majra, Mehal Kalan of Barnala.
Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, SHO, Focal Point police station said that the police arrested the accused from a roadside eatery near Dehlon Chowk.
Inspector said that the incident occurred on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday and the police received information about the incident from Civil Hospital after victims with acid burns were rushed to hospital. When recorded the statement of victim Jatinder Kaur, she stated that there is a marital dispute with her husband Rajveer and the court was to pronounce order on the divorce case today.
“Rajveer knew that he would lose the case therefore, he hatched the conspiracy to attack us and barged into our house by scaling the wall and splashed acid on us,” she said.
Inspector said that after recording the statement of the victim the police registered a case under section 124(1) of BNS against the accused and initiated a probe and within hours traced him and arrested him.
Inspector added that the accused had carried a bottle of acid which was kept in his house’s washroom.
Inspector further added that the condition of three victims is stable.
