Chandigarh: Enforcement Directorate raids are currently taking place in Chandigarh and Mohali. These raids are being conducted at 15 locations, including those of several IAS officers, property dealers, and farmers. Sources suggest that these raids are related to the recent Guava Orchard Scam in Mohali (Amrood Bagh Scam).
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau was investigating this scam earlier. The raids are being conducted at the addresses of people connected to the investigation. There is a case related to land acquisition for the AeroCity project by the Greater Mohali Development Authority on Airport Road.
The compensation for the acquired land was given according to the land pooling policy. However, the value of the fruit-bearing trees on the land was separately calculated and compensated for. The collector had prepared a valuation report for the fruit trees.
The horticulture department had determined the value of the fruit-bearing trees. After that, the collector sent a survey list of the fruit trees on the land to the director of horticulture. Before the land acquisition, some people had planted Guava trees here. However, when the officials from the department of horticulture surveyed the trees, they appeared to be 4-5 years old.
Due to this, the compensation amount became quite high. Many people took advantage of this situation and took compensation inappropriately. The vigilance bureau arrested some of the accused in this case. But the court granted bail after they deposited the compensation amount.
