₹900 crore Jal Jeevan Mission scam: 9 officials on 3-day ACB remand

New Delhi: Nine officials arrested in connection with the alleged ₹900 crore Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam were produced before the special Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court on Tuesday. The court remanded all the accused to three days of police custody.

Court grants 3-day remand

The ACB, while presenting the accused before the special court under the Prevention of Corruption Act, had sought five days’ remand to examine documents, financial transactions, and question other potential accused in the scam. However, the court granted three days’ remand.

The ACB team brought all the accused to court in a single vehicle. The officials brought files related to the scam wrapped in red cloth.

Arrests made after raids at 15 locations

On February 17, the ACB conducted simultaneous raids at 15 locations in Jaipur, Udaipur, Jalore, Barmer, Sikar, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Delhi. Following these raids, nine officers were arrested from various locations.

The officials produced in court include:

* Dinesh Goyal, then Chief Engineer, PHED Project, Jaipur
* DK Gaur, retired Technical Chief Engineer
* Niril Kumar, then Superintending Engineer (Civil), PHED Jaipur, currently Chief Engineer, Churu
* Sushil Sharma, then Financial Advisor, Jal Jeevan Mission, PHED Jaipur
* Shubhanshu Dixit, Additional Chief Engineer, Jaipur (then Secretary, RWSSMCH)
* Arun Srivastava, retired Additional Chief Engineer, PHED Zone-1, Jaipur
* Mahendra Prakash Soni (MP Soni), retired Superintending Engineer, PHED PIU-II, Didwana
* Vishal Saxena, then Executive Engineer, PHED Shahpura, Jaipur, currently suspended

Allegations of fake billing and financial irregularities

According to sources, this action has been taken due to allegations of fake billing and massive financial irregularities in works carried out under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The ACB is also investigating the role of contractors, officials, and other relevant individuals.

The investigation is ongoing, and significant revelations are expected during the remand.
