2.89 crore voters deleted in UP draft electoral roll after SIR

Lucknow: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the draft electoral roll of Uttar Pradesh after completing the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), resulting in the deletion of about 2.89 crore voters from the state list.

    Voter Count Reduced Significantly

The electoral roll, which previously had 15.44 crore voters, now stands at 12.55 crore, according to Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa.

    Reasons for Deletion

Among the names removed, the categories include:

    • Deceased voters – around 46.23 lakh (2.99%)
    • Shifted voters – 2.17 crore (14.06%)
    • Duplicate entries – 25.46 lakh (1.65%)

This revision aims to make the electoral roll more accurate and eliminate outdated, duplicate, or invalid entries before upcoming elections in the state.
