CRPF ASI Shoots Dead Two Colleagues, Injures Another Before Dying by Suicide in Assam

Nagaon (Assam): Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and another was injured after an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly opened fire on his colleagues with his service rifle at a battalion camp in Assam’s Nagaon district on Tuesday morning. The officer later died by suicide using the same weapon, police said.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. at the 34 Battalion CRPF camp in Katimari, where ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram was deployed on duty at the main gate.

According to Nagaon Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Paramita Sarkar, the ASI suddenly opened fire on fellow personnel before turning the weapon on himself.

Two Personnel Killed, One Undergoing Treatment

Police identified the deceased personnel as Head Constable/GD Vishnu Prasad Baghel and Sub-Inspector/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav, who died on the spot.

Another CRPF personnel, ASI/Mane Govind Sripul, sustained injuries in the firing and was rushed to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

The accused officer also died at the scene after allegedly shooting himself.

Investigation Underway, Motive Yet to Be Established

Following the incident, senior officials from the CRPF and Assam Police reached the camp and secured the area.

Authorities have ordered an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the firing. Officials said the motive behind the incident is not yet known, and investigators are examining all possible angles.

The CRPF has not issued any official statement on the reason behind the shooting, and further investigation is underway.
