Dairy Farmers to Stage Major Protest in Amritsar Today: Attempt to Rouse Administration by Spilling Milk

Today in Amritsar, dairy farmers—under the leadership of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur)—will stage a massive protest demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The farmers will register a strong protest against the rampant adulteration of milk and dairy products, as well as the alleged inaction of the administration.

During the demonstration, the farmers will symbolically pour out milk to express their outrage. The farmers assert that the illicit trade of milk adulteration is continuously on the rise, posing a grave threat to public health. They allege that, despite numerous complaints, the administration is failing to take effective action against those involved in adulteration.

Farmers’ Key Demand: Strict Action and Regular Inspections

Farmer leaders are demanding that strict legal action be taken against those adulterating milk and that regular inspection drives be conducted to ensure that the public has access to pure milk and dairy products. A large number of dairy farmers and agriculturists are expected to participate in this protest. Following the demonstration, the farmers will submit a memorandum to the administration, demanding immediate and concrete action.

Dairy Farmers Had Also Protested on May 18

On May 18, leaders of the ‘Dodhi Union’ (Milkmen’s Union) stated that the earnings of livestock rearers and milk traders—who work hard to produce pure milk—are being continuously adversely affected. Conversely, those selling counterfeit milk are raking in huge profits by marketing products manufactured using cheap chemicals and adulterated substances. They alleged that, despite multiple complaints, the concerned government departments are merely going through the motions without taking any substantive action.
