Dalit Groups Flog Themselves at Jantar Mantar, Say Voting for Congress Was a ‘Mistake’

New Delhi: The national capital witnessed a shocking scene today when Dalit organizations from Karnataka staged a dramatic protest at Jantar Mantar. Many of the protesters whipped themselves to punish themselves for the “sin” of voting for the Congress party.

Hundreds of Dalits gathered under the banners of various organizations. They allege that the Congress party has failed to fulfill the promises it made to Dalits before the Karnataka Assembly elections after coming to power.

During the protest, several people publicly whipped themselves, saying it was an expression of remorse for trusting the Congress party. The protesters raised slogans against the Congress leadership and demanded immediate action on the community’s problems.

The protest, which began at Jantar Mantar, soon reached the Congress headquarters at 24, Akbar Road. Holding placards and banners, the protesters criticized the party leadership.

Meanwhile, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya shared a video of the protest on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

Malviya’s post went viral and sparked a political firestorm. BJP leaders cited it as evidence of public anger against the Congress, while opposition parties accused the BJP of politicizing a sensitive issue.

This emotionally charged protest and self-punishment scene has further raised the political temperature during the election season.
