Kolkata: National-level shooter Damayanti Sen, who had been missing since Thursday afternoon, returned home safely on Saturday morning after nearly 48 hours, bringing relief to her family, friends and the shooting community. However, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, with police continuing their investigation.

The 15-year-old shooter, who was recently selected for national team trials, was found near Ramkrishnapur Ferry Jetty in Howrah district. She was reportedly spotted by morning walkers, who recognised her and informed her family. Her father, Dhrubajyoti Sen, reached the location and brought her home.

Police yet to reveal what happened

Despite her safe return, neither the family nor the police have disclosed where Damayanti had been during the two days she was missing. A four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed on Friday to trace the teenager and investigate the case, had not issued any official statement at the time of publication.

Damayanti had left her home in central Howrah on Thursday afternoon to buy household items but did not return. According to her family, she was carrying her mobile phone when she left.

She was spotted twice during the search

Investigators had earlier traced Damayanti through CCTV footage at Howrah Railway Station, where she was seen moving between Platforms 4 and 5 on Thursday. She was later reportedly spotted at the Mahesh Rath Yatra in Serampore, Hooghly district, on Friday afternoon.

Following reports of her disappearance, police deployed multiple teams to search for the teenager after information about her movements circulated on social media.

Her safe return has brought relief to neighbours and fellow shooters, even as authorities continue to investigate what led to her disappearance and where she stayed during the 48-hour period.
