Darshan Kumaar on ‘The Bengal Files’: This time it’s more intense

Mumbai: As the creators of “The Bengal Files”—originally titled “The Delhi Files”—released the teaser for their upcoming film on Thursday, actor Darshan Kumaar shared that his role is even more intense this time.

The teaser is emotionally powerful and candid, introducing characters played by actors like Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Puneet Issar, and Pallavi Joshi.

Darshan, who reprises his role as a Kashmiri Pandit, described his experience as a “responsibility.” He expressed excitement and a bit of nervousness about the teaser, noting that his character embodies the pain, strength, and resilience of an entire community. Following his portrayal in “The Kashmir Files,” stepping into the shoes of another Kashmiri Pandit felt more like a duty than just a role.

He emphasized that “This time, it’s even more intense—raw, emotional, and brutally honest. I’ve poured my heart into it and aim to do justice to their unheard voices.” Darshan hopes audiences will connect with his character’s journey and the message the film aims to convey, stating, “Some stories don’t just need to be told—they need to be felt.”

Regarding his experience working with stars like Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, and director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, Darshan called it “truly amazing” and a “blessing” to be part of such a talented ensemble after “The Kashmir Files.” He described them as “living legends” and said sharing the screen with them is an inspiring experience that elevates him as an actor.

The film is produced by Abhishek Agarwal and marks a reunion between Darshan and filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri. Currently, Darshan is shooting for an untitled suspense thriller in Bihar.

Set to release on September 5, “The Bengal Files” is the third and final part of Agnihotri’s “Files” trilogy, which explores key moments in modern Indian history. It follows “The Tashkent Files” and “The Kashmir Files,” and focuses on the 1946 Great Calcutta killings, delving into communal violence in undivided Bengal during the 1940s, including notable events such as Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots.
