Death of two Cousins ​​in Panipat of toxic gas while cleaning contaminated water tank at factory

Two cousins—Nitin (18) and Shivam (19)—died after descending into a tank containing contaminated water to clean it at a blanket factory near Jalalpur Kurad village, within the jurisdiction of the Sanauli police station. Both youths hailed from Jandheri village in the Kairana region of Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh.

They had arrived at the factory on Thursday to work alongside another young man from their extended family. The relatives allege that the two were lowered into the 20-foot-deep pit without any safety equipment. Meanwhile, the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Joginder, a resident of Jandheri, stated that a young man from their family named Monu works at the Mayur Enterprises factory located near Jalalpur Kurad village. On Monday, Shivam and Nitin had also come to work with him. They arrived at the factory around 10:00 AM. At the factory, they were assigned the task of cleaning a tank containing contaminated water.

Both were lowered into the tank, which was approximately 20 feet deep. As soon as they entered, they were overcome by toxic fumes accumulating inside the tank, causing them to suffocate. Consequently, they lost consciousness and collapsed inside.

When they failed to emerge after a considerable period, another individual was lowered into the tank with a rope tied around his waist. He found both youths lying unconscious and immediately alerted those outside.

This caused a commotion at the site. Upon receiving the information, a police team also rushed to the scene. Both victims were pulled out of the tank and transported to a private hospital in the city, where doctors pronounced them dead. The police have reached the location and have commenced their investigation into the incident.
