Deepti Sharma tops, Shafali, Richa, and Renuka make big progress in T20I rankings

Dubai: The stars of India’s young women’s cricket team are dominating international T20 matches. Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, and Renuka Singh have made impressive progress in the latest ICC Women’s T20I rankings. The consistent performances of these players, along with Deepti Sharma’s continued top spot, underscore India’s dominance in the ongoing five-match series against Sri Lanka.

    Shafali Verma’s impressive comeback

20-year-old opener Shafali Verma has jumped four places to sixth in the T20I batter rankings after her impressive series. Shafali held the number one spot in 2020 and has now become only the second Indian player, after Mithali Raj, to achieve the top ranking in T20Is.

Her form has continued following last month’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final, where she scored 87 runs and took two wickets, playing a key role in India’s first 50-over World Cup victory. In the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka, Shafali has scored three half-centuries and topped the run charts. She is now only 60 rating points behind top-ranked Australian batsman Beth Mooney.

Richa Ghosh and Renuka Singh jump in rankings

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh jumped seven places to 20th in the T20I rankings after her match-winning innings of 40 not out in the fourth match. Her aggressive batting bolstered the team’s strength and further strengthened India’s dominance over Sri Lanka.

Renuka Singh made a big impression in the bowling department. Her brilliant four-wicket haul in the third match propelled her up eight places, placing her among the top six bowlers. Additionally, left-arm spinner Shree Charani has jumped 17 places to 52nd, while debutant Vaishnavi Sharma has made an astonishing jump of 390 places to 124th in her debut international series.

Deepti Sharma’s dominance and India’s series lead

Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma continues to hold the top spot in the T20I bowlers’ rankings. West Indies’ Hayley Matthews leads the T20I all-rounders’ rankings.

There were also some bright spots for Sri Lanka. Left-arm opener Hasini Perera has jumped 114 places to 71st, while Kavisha Dilhari has reached 79th. However, India have taken a strong 4-0 lead in the five-match series, and a whitewash is looming in the final match.

The progress of Shafali, Richa, and Renuka reflects not only individual success but also the growing strength and consistency of the Indian women’s team in T20, which is encouraging for the team’s future at the global level.
