Two Dead, One Rescued After Car Swept Away in Dehradun Amid Heavy Rain

Dehradun: Two people died while a young woman was rescued after an SUV was swept away by a strong water current near Kandoli Bridge on Poundha Road in Dehradun’s Prem Nagar area amid heavy rainfall, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said.

According to the SDRF, information was received late at night about an SUV being washed away by rainwater near the Kandoli Bridge in the Lower Kandoli area.

Following the alert, an SDRF team from Dakpatthar, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Suresh Tomar, reached the spot and launched a search and rescue operation.

“Three individuals — one male and two females — were travelling in the vehicle when it was swept away by the strong current,” an SDRF official said.

Woman Rescued Two Kilometres From Spot

Despite adverse weather conditions and strong water currents, SDRF personnel continued the search and rescue operation throughout the night.

During the operation, one injured woman, identified as Sehaj, daughter of Gulshan Baveja, was found approximately two kilometres from the incident site.

She was rescued and handed over to the local police for further assistance and treatment.

The SDRF team continued searching the area around the incident site and carried out rescue operations despite the difficult weather conditions.

Two Bodies Recovered

The bodies of the other two occupants were subsequently recovered by the SDRF team.

One of the deceased was identified as 20-year-old Akshay, a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan, while the identity of the other deceased woman was not immediately known.

The bodies were handed over to the local police for legal proceedings and post-mortem examination.

SDRF on High Alert Amid Orange Alert

The incident occurred a day after the SDRF was placed on high alert following an Orange Alert issued by the Meteorological Department for Uttarakhand.

SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi held a meeting to review the preparedness of teams deployed across the state, with company commanders participating in the briefing.

The Commandant sought updates on weather conditions and the readiness of teams in their respective deployment areas.

He directed all personnel to remain alert during the rainfall and ensure that rescue teams were equipped with complete rescue gear and essential safety equipment.
