Delhi: Brigadier and son attacked for protesting public drinking in Vasant Vihar

New Delhi: An Indian Army Brigadier and his son were allegedly attacked by some people in Vasant Enclave, South Delhi, when they confronted two men drinking in a parked car, officials said.

The incident occurred on Saturday, April 11, at around 10 p.m.

The Brigadier, who is currently posted in Gujarat and lives with his family in Delhi, said he was out for a walk with his son after dinner when he spotted two men drinking in a car parked outside his house. When he objected, an argument broke out between the two parties.

The accused called their friends and attacked

The Brigadier stated that he called a police PCR van, which arrived at the scene in about 20 minutes. The occupants of the car then called their friends, who then attacked his son.

When the Brigadier tried to intervene, he was also allegedly manhandled.

    Questions raised about police action

The Brigadier alleged that he later went to the Vasant Vihar police station, but received no help. The police asked him to bring an MLC (Medical Legal Certificate), but no police officer accompanied him to the hospital.

He personally went to RR Hospital and got an MLC, but even after this, the police did not register an FIR and only made a DD entry.

Army active, FIR registered after delay

The Indian Army has taken this matter seriously and has taken steps to assist the officer. A military police team has been deployed to assist, and the Delhi Police has been asked to investigate and take action.

Meanwhile, Colonel Danveer Singh expressed concern about the incident on the social media platform X. He wrote that the Brigadier was walking with his IITian son when some people attacked him for protesting against public drinking.

He stated that 7-8 people assaulted the Brigadier and his son, injuring both. He also questioned the role of the police and said that such incidents in the national capital are worrying.

He later stated that after much effort, an FIR has finally been registered and expressed hope that strict action will be taken against the accused, which will teach such anti-social elements a lesson.
