Delhi Building Collapse: Two Dead as Roof and Newly Laid Slab Cave In at Harsh Vihar

New Delhi: Two people died after slabs of a building collapsed during construction work in Delhi’s Harsh Vihar area, officials said on Monday. The incident took place at Milan Garden in Northeast Delhi on Sunday evening, triggering a rescue operation involving multiple agencies.

The victims were trapped under the debris and were later pulled out by rescue teams. They were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), it received information about the incident around 6.40 pm on Sunday and immediately sent two fire tenders to the spot.

Roof Collapse Traps Two During Construction

The collapse occurred while a new floor was being constructed above an old house. During the work, a portion of the existing roof gave way, causing the newly laid slab above it to collapse as well.

Two people were trapped under the rubble following the collapse.

Teams from the Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Service reached the site and began rescue efforts. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Civil Defence also joined the operation.

A JCB machine and other heavy equipment were brought in to remove the debris and help rescue the trapped individuals. Both victims were eventually pulled out and taken to a hospital, where they were declared dead.

    Delhi Ministers Visit the Site

Delhi Cabinet Ministers Kapil Mishra and Ashish Sood visited the site to assess the situation and review the rescue operation.

Rescue teams continued working through the night to clear the remaining debris. Authorities are also looking into the circumstances that led to the collapse.

Further details about the victims and the exact cause of the incident are awaited.

Earlier Building Collapse Reported in Seemapuri

The latest incident comes amid another building collapse reported earlier in October in the Seemapuri area of North Delhi.

At the time, a portion of a multi-storey building collapsed, with several people feared trapped under the debris, officials said.

The Delhi Fire Service deployed two fire vehicles to the site. In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said rescue teams were working at the location.

The incident also affected traffic around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads.
