New Delhi: A man allegedly shot his girlfriend dead before dying by suicide in Delhi’s Burari area after their families opposed their marriage, police said. The incident came to light on Thursday afternoon when the Police Control Room (PCR) received information about two people with gunshot injuries in the Kamal Vihar area.

Police recovered the bodies of a man and a woman along with a pistol from the scene. Preliminary investigation suggests the man first shot the woman before using the same weapon to end his own life.

WhatsApp Message Reveals Alleged Motive

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthiya, the police received a PCR call at around 3:30 pm on Thursday regarding the shooting.

“We received a PCR call around 3:30 pm reporting that a man and a woman had sustained gunshot wounds in the Kamal Vihar area of Burari. Upon arrival, we found two bodies, a male and a female, both with gunshot injuries; a pistol was lying at the scene,” the DCP said.

During the investigation, police found a lengthy message allegedly sent by the man to his family’s WhatsApp group before the incident.

According to the police, the message stated that the couple loved each other and wanted to get married but were unable to do so because of opposition from their families. The man allegedly confessed in the message that he had shot the woman before taking his own life.

Police said the contents of the message are being verified as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police Continue Investigation

Investigators are examining all aspects of the case, including the origin of the firearm and the sequence of events leading to the deaths.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, and further investigation is underway.

Separate Incident Involving Delhi Police Constable

In another recent incident in the national capital, Delhi Police constable Manish Bhati, who was accused of shooting his wife dead in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area following an argument, was later found dead in a park near Mayur Vihar.

Police said preliminary investigation suggests Bhati died by suicide using his service revolver after allegedly killing his wife. The incident remains under investigation.
