Delhi Court Closes Corruption Case against AAP’s Satyendar Jain After CBI Finds No Evidence

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday formally closed the corruption case against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a closure report, stating it found no evidence of illegal activity or personal gain.

No Proof of Corruption or Conspiracy: Court

Special Judge (PC Act) Dig Vinay Singh of Rouse Avenue Courts accepted the CBI’s report, observing that despite a four-year-long investigation, no material evidence pointed to any criminal conspiracy or corruption. The judge emphasized that the law does not permit mere suspicion to replace proof and that even to frame charges, stronger grounds than mere suspicion are required.

Hiring Decision Was Transparent and Urgent, Says CBI

The case stemmed from allegations that Jain, during his tenure as Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, approved the outsourcing-based recruitment of 17 consultants, bypassing standard government hiring procedures. However, the CBI concluded that the decision was made in response to urgent departmental needs and that the process was transparent and competitive.

Closure Accepted, Further Probe Open if New Evidence Emerges

The vigilance department had initially filed a complaint leading to an FIR in May 2019. After extensive investigation, the CBI found no signs of corruption, undue favour, or personal benefit. Accepting the closure report, the Court remarked that the case stands closed but left open the possibility of further investigation if new material surfaces.
