Delhi: Roop Nagar Footover Bridge Built Over Drain Collapses; Woman Dies

In the Roop Nagar area, a footover bridge constructed over a drain suddenly collapsed. In this tragic accident, a woman fell into the drain. Divers who arrived at the scene retrieved the woman from the drain and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead by the doctors.

The police have taken custody of the woman’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman was crossing the bridge at the time of the incident when a section of the structure suddenly gave way, causing her to plunge directly into the drain below. Local residents immediately initiated rescue efforts and alerted the police; however, the woman could not be saved.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the footover bridge was in a severely dilapidated condition—a matter regarding which complaints had been lodged previously. However, timely repairs were not carried out. The police are currently investigating the matter.
