Delhi Extends Pink Ticket Facility for Women in Buses Till August 31

New Delhi: The Delhi government has extended the existing arrangement allowing women to use paper-based pink tickets for free travel in DTC and Cluster buses till August 31, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Sunday.

The Pink Saheli Smart Card will become mandatory for availing the free travel facility from September 1.

The decision has been taken keeping the festive season, particularly Raksha Bandhan, in mind so that women commuters do not face inconvenience while travelling to meet their families.

Smart Card Mandatory From September 1

Under the revised arrangement, eligible women can continue to receive paper-based pink tickets and travel free of cost in DTC and Cluster buses until August 31.

From September 1, free travel will be available only through a valid Pink Saheli Smart Card.

The Transport Minister said the extension would give eligible women additional time to obtain their smart cards.

Over 18 Lakh Pink Saheli Cards Issued

According to the Delhi government, 18,13,866 Pink Saheli Smart Cards have been issued so far.

The Transport Department has directed depot managers, regional managers, conductors and enforcement staff to publicise the revised deadline and encourage women commuters to obtain their cards before August 31.

Awareness campaigns will also be conducted through depot and in-bus announcements, social media and print media.

The Delhi government urged all eligible women commuters to obtain their Pink Saheli Smart Cards before the deadline to continue using the free travel facility from September 1.
