Delhi HC Orders Removal of Objectionable Content Linked to Actress Tabu

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday said it will pass an interim order directing the removal of certain objectionable online content linked to Bollywood actress Tabu while hearing her plea seeking protection of her personality and publicity rights.

A single-judge Bench of Justice Jyoti Singh was hearing Tabu’s suit against the unauthorised use of her name, image, likeness and identity attributes across digital platforms.

Court takes note of objectionable online links

During the hearing, senior advocate Swathi Sukumar, appearing for Tabu, informed the court that some online platforms were using search terms combining the actress’ name with pornographic content.

The counsel argued that such content was being commercially exploited by digital platforms.

Taking note of the submissions, Justice Singh observed that the identified links needed to be removed and said, “They have to be taken down.”

Tabu seeks protection of personality rights

Tabu approached the Delhi High Court alleging unauthorised commercial use of her identity, including misuse through digital platforms and AI-generated content.

The actress has sought protection against the misuse of her name, image, likeness and other personal attributes without consent.

Court considers SOP for similar cases

The Delhi High Court also considered framing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to deal with cases involving alleged misuse of personality rights of public figures in the digital space.

The court said it would pass a detailed order later, and the matter has been listed for further hearing on December 7.

The case is part of a growing trend of public figures approaching courts over unauthorised use of their identity, including AI-generated impersonations and digital content. Several actors, sportspersons and public personalities have sought legal protection for their personality and publicity rights.
