Delhi Fire: Three Rescued After Electric Meter Panel Blaze in Keshav Puram Residential Building

New Delhi: Three people were safely rescued after a fire broke out in the electric meter panel of a residential building in Delhi’s Keshav Puram area during the early hours of Monday. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) responded swiftly, bringing the blaze under control within nearly 30 minutes and preventing any casualties.

According to fire officials, the incident was reported at around 2:03 a.m. from B-4/180, Lawrence Road, near Lal Shahi Mandir, under the Keshav Puram police station area.

Fire Originated in Electric Meter Panel

The Delhi Fire Services said the fire was confined to the electric meter panel installed on the ground floor, where 24 electricity meters were located. The residential building consists of a ground floor and four upper floors.

Following multiple emergency calls, DFS immediately dispatched two water tenders, two water bowsers and one Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) under the supervision of Station Officer Rajender.

As the situation demanded additional resources, a Bronto Skylift and Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) R.K. Yadav were also rushed to the spot at around 2:10 a.m.

    Three Residents Rescued from Terrace

During the rescue operation, firefighters safely evacuated Gaurav (28), Kaira (25), and Indu Batra (55), who had become stranded on the terrace due to heavy smoke and the developing fire below.

The prompt response by the fire department ensured that all three occupants were rescued without injuries.

Fire Brought Under Control in 30 Minutes

Officials confirmed that the blaze was brought under control quickly, with the fire department issuing a “Stop” message at 2:30 a.m.

No deaths or injuries were reported, and the fire remained confined to the electrical installation, preventing it from spreading to residential floors.

Authorities are expected to examine the exact cause of the electrical fire, although it appears to have originated in the building’s meter panel.

    Delhi Witnessing Multiple Fire Incidents

The latest incident comes just days after a major fire engulfed a labour settlement near Udyog Bhawan in central Delhi, where workers associated with the Central Vista redevelopment project were staying. The blaze intensified after several LPG cylinders exploded, prompting the Delhi Fire Services to declare it a Make-4 category fire and deploy multiple firefighting units.

Earlier this month, another devastating residential fire in Delhi’s Govindpuri area claimed multiple lives, highlighting the growing concern over fire safety in densely populated residential buildings and electrical infrastructure.

Fire officials advise residents to regularly inspect electrical wiring, meter panels and overloaded circuits, as electrical faults remain one of the leading causes of residential fires in Delhi. Proper maintenance of electrical installations and immediate reporting of sparks or burning smells can help prevent major incidents.
