New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday called for collective efforts to build a ‘Viksit Delhi’ that can emerge as a national model of excellence, safety and civic pride.
Sandhu made the remarks after hoisting the National Flag at Lok Niwas on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day. A ceremonial police contingent presented the National Salute during the event.
Addressing freedom fighters, representatives of resident welfare associations, youth icons and students, the L-G highlighted key priorities for the national capital, including cleaning the Yamuna, tackling air pollution, providing housing for all, ensuring affordable healthcare and strengthening safety and security.
Sandhu Calls for Coordinated Efforts for Delhi’s Development
Sandhu said Delhi’s governance must be guided by the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, aur Sabka Prayas’ and called for seamless coordination among the Union government, Delhi government, municipal bodies, neighbouring states and citizens.
He said coordinated efforts were necessary to address complex challenges facing the capital and turn them into long-term opportunities.
The L-G also highlighted the need for greater focus on the welfare and safety of women and children, improved traffic management and the rejuvenation of Delhi’s heritage.
L-G Highlights PM Modi’s ‘Shakti Ki Saptadhara’
Sandhu also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Shakti Ki Saptadhara’, outlined during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort.
He said the seven streams of strength manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti, Raksha Shakti, the green and blue economy, and India’s soft power would play an important role in India’s growth in the coming years.
In a post on X, Sandhu paid tribute to freedom fighters and remembered their sacrifices while calling for a renewed commitment to the vision of Viksit Bharat and Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas.
‘Every Citizen Should Feel Safe, Valued and Empowered’
Sandhu said Delhi has immense potential and that every district, street and neighbourhood of the national capital has its own story.
He said it was the collective responsibility of the administration and citizens to convert Delhi’s potential into greater convenience, dignity and well-being for its people.
Calling youth the “real drivers” of the future, the L-G said Delhi should lead the country’s journey towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
“To the youth the real drivers of our future I say: let us build a Delhi where every citizen feels safe, valued and empowered,” he said.
