New Delhi: A bomb threat was received at Balram Public School in Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Delhi, on Friday, prompting an immediate security response. The Delhi Fire Service said police and emergency response teams were alerted after a call reporting the threat was received at around 8:40 am.
Security checks are currently underway at the school premises. Further details are awaited, officials said.
Several Delhi Schools Received Bomb Threats Earlier This Week
The latest threat comes days after several schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails on Tuesday, leading to the evacuation of students and extensive security checks.
The schools mentioned in connection with the threats included British School in Chanakyapuri, Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodi Estate. Air Force Bal Bharati School and Carmel Convent School were also among the schools linked to the threats, according to officials.
The emails were reportedly received at around 10:17 am, with one of them carrying a subject line referring to an alleged blast at Delhi schools at 1:11 pm.
Threat Messages Allegedly Warned of Attacks Across Delhi
The threat messages were believed to have been written in Punjabi and contained warnings of explosions at schools. They also allegedly mentioned attacks targeting police stations, police posts and court complexes in the national capital.
The emails reportedly warned people against travelling by Delhi Metro or trains until September 29 and threatened explosions at several locations, including courts.
Following the threats, police and other security agencies carried out searches at the affected schools. Bomb detection and disposal squads and sniffer dog teams were deployed to inspect classrooms, corridors, open areas and other parts of the premises for suspicious objects.
Fire Tenders and Ambulances Kept on Standby
Several fire tenders and ambulances were also kept on standby as a precautionary measure following the threats.
The Delhi Fire Service said it received a call from Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan at around 11:30 am, following which a fire tender was sent to the location. After a thorough search, the bomb threat there was declared a hoax at 1:05 pm, according to the DFS.
Police also received information about a bomb threat email at the British School. The school premises and surrounding areas were searched, after which the threat was declared a hoax, officials said.
