New Delhi: Delhi Metro services will begin at 4 a.m. on August 15, Independence Day, to facilitate the movement of special guests, invitees and the general public attending the celebrations at the Red Fort, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Thursday.

Metro Services to Run Every 30 Minutes

According to the DMRC, metro services will start from 4 a.m. from all terminal stations across the network.

Trains will operate at a frequency of 30 minutes on all lines until regular revenue services begin as per the day’s scheduled timetable.

The arrangement has been made to ensure smooth travel for people attending the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.

Special QR Tickets for Invited Guests

The DMRC has supplied 1.30 lakh special pre-vended QR tickets to the Ministry of Defence for special guests and invitees.

People carrying valid physical admit cards issued by the Ministry of Defence will also be provided special QR tickets at designated metro stations.

The cost of travel through these special QR tickets will be reimbursed to the DMRC by the Ministry of Defence.

The Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Delhi Gate metro stations are the nearest stations to the Red Fort.

DMRC Issues Kite-Flying Advisory

The DMRC has also urged people across Delhi-NCR to avoid flying kites near elevated Metro lines during the Independence Day period.

The corporation warned that kite strings could become entangled with high-voltage overhead equipment and disrupt Metro services or create safety risks.

Meanwhile, a full dress rehearsal for the Independence Day celebrations was held at the Red Fort on Thursday amid heightened security and traffic restrictions in the national capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation from the Red Fort on August 15.
