Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi-NCR; IMD Issues Orange Alert for July 9

New Delhi: Fresh spells of rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR early Thursday, extending the ongoing monsoon activity across the region and bringing relief from the recent spell of heat and humidity. However, the continuous rainfall also caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas, affecting traffic and daily movement.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi, warning of heavy rainfall throughout the day and advising residents to remain cautious due to the possibility of waterlogging, traffic congestion and reduced visibility.

Waterlogging Reported in Several Areas

Rainwater accumulated at multiple locations, including New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka and several other parts of the capital. While no major incidents were immediately reported, commuters faced inconvenience due to slow-moving traffic and waterlogged roads.

Authorities have advised motorists to avoid waterlogged stretches and plan their travel accordingly.

Rain Likely to Continue Till July 10

According to the IMD, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and western Uttar Pradesh until July 10. The weather department has also forecast a fresh spell of rainfall over northeastern Uttar Pradesh until July 13, while eastern Rajasthan is likely to receive heavy showers on July 9.

IMD data for the period between 8:30 a.m. on July 8 and 5:30 a.m. on July 9 showed significant rainfall across Delhi.

The active monsoon spell is expected to keep temperatures below normal over the next couple of days, while civic agencies remain on alert to tackle rain-related disruptions.
