Delhi to Ban Entry of Non-BS-VI Vehicles From Outside City From November 1

New Delhi: Delhi will not allow non-BS-VI vehicles registered outside the national capital from November 1 to curb rising pollution levels.

This is going to be applicable till January 31, 2027. Commuters coming to Delhi from neighbouring cities for their work or business will be affected.

There are more than 10 lakh such non-BS-VI vehicles in Delhi-NCR (Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad), according to transport dept estimates.

Non-BS-VI Vehicles Exceed 2 Lakh in Gurugram and Faridabad

Gurugram and Faridabad together have almost 2 lakh non-BS-VI vehicles. About 70 per cent of them are BS-III and BS-IV vehicles.

There are about 50 thousand commercial vehicles which do not adhere to emission standards in these two Haryana districts, according to estimates (as reported by NDTV).

These numbers are higher in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. Noida and Greater Noida together have over 4 lakh vehicles not conforming to BS-VI standards, with over half of them being BS-IV vehicles. These include petrol cars.

Ghaziabad has about 4 lakh vehicles which are below BS-VI standards.

No Restrictions on CNG and EVs

The ban on non-BS-VI vehicles will only apply to vehicles not registered in Delhi. Those registered within the national capital will not be affected but there will be other pollution controls and vehicle age rules in place.

CNG vehicles, EVs, ambulances, fire tenders and certain vehicles in essential services have been excluded. Vehicles registered outside Delhi but conforming to BS-VI standards will be allowed in.

AI Cameras Will Be Used To Check Vehicles Entering Delhi

Authorities are also planning to tighten checks at entry points into Delhi.

Technology will be used to check which vehicles aren’t meeting emission standards. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras powered by Artificial Intelligence will be used to scan number plates and help identify vehicles to check.

It is expected this will help authorities to keep an eye on vehicles entering Delhi from surrounding areas.

There will also be tighter checks in place at entry points.
