Allegations by Three Female Journalists
Three female journalists had accused police officers of alleged sexual harassment and misconduct during a protest near Jantar Mantar on October 3. One journalist accused ACP Vivek Bhagat of inappropriate touching and pushing her in her complaint.
Delhi Police has stated that all three complaints have been referred to the Crime Branch for an impartial investigation. According to the police, medical examinations of the complainants have also been conducted and evidence related to the case is being examined.
Questions raised over promotion
Vivek Bhagat’s promotion comes at a time when an investigation into a complaint against him is underway. Citing senior police officials, the report stated that this was a routine promotion order and the process had already begun. Along with Bhagat, 11 other officers were also promoted.
Journalist organizations demand action
Regarding the incident, journalists and organizations have demanded that the police take action on the complaint and file an FIR. The Press Club of India also expressed concern, saying that journalists should be allowed to do their work without fear.
The allegations are currently being investigated by the Crime Branch, and the allegations against the officer will only be confirmed after the investigation is complete.
