New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested a 39-year-old man from Haryana’s Jhajjar district who had been declared a proclaimed offender in a 2019 case related to cruelty against women, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Anil Kumar, son of Naresh Kumar and a resident of Kaliawas village in Jhajjar, Haryana, had been evading trial in a case registered at Dabri Police Station. A Delhi court declared him a proclaimed offender on July 10.
Accused evaded trial in 2019 case
The case relates to FIR No. 395/2019, registered under Sections 498A and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Dabri Police Station.
The proclamation order was issued by Subhi Gupta, Judicial Magistrate First Class (Mahila Court), South-West District, Dwarka Courts, Delhi.
According to police, a dedicated team of the Anti-Jail Bail and Proclaimed Offenders Cell of Dwarka District was formed on the directions of Dwarka Deputy Commissioner of Police Kushal Pal Singh, IPS, to trace proclaimed offenders.
The team was headed by Inspector Harish Kumar and included Head Constables Rahul Yadav and Kulwant. The operation was carried out under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Subhash Malik.
Police lay trap in Jhajjar village
Police said the team received specific information on August 23 that Anil Kumar was present in and around Birohar village in Jhajjar.
Acting on the information, the police team reached the area and laid a trap. Kumar was subsequently apprehended, police said.
According to police, Kumar had no previous criminal involvement listed against him.
The arrest was made as part of Delhi Police’s ongoing efforts to trace and apprehend proclaimed offenders who have been evading legal proceedings.
