Delhi Police bust fake drug racket, uncover manufacturing unit and arrest two

New Delhi: The Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch, Delhi Police, has busted a well-organised racket involved in the manufacture and nationwide distribution of spurious Schedule-H medicines, seizing counterfeit drugs and related material worth over ₹2.3 crore and arresting two persons in the case.

Fake Drug Racket Unearthed, Two Arrested

The arrested accused have been identified as Gaurav Bhagat, a resident of Meerpur Hindu village in Loni, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Shree Ram alias Vishal Gupta from Nirmal Vihar, Sabhapur, Delhi. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Inspector Manjeet Kumar and supervised by ACP Anil Sharma, police said.

Raid at Sadar Bazar Leads to Major Recovery

Acting on specific intelligence and technical surveillance, the Cyber Cell carried out a raid at Teliwara in Sadar Bazar, one of Delhi’s largest wholesale pharmaceutical markets. During the operation, a large quantity of counterfeit Schedule-H ointments, including Betnovate-C and Clop-G, was recovered. These medicines are commonly used for skin allergies and sports injuries, making their circulation particularly hazardous for consumers.

Illegal Manufacturing Unit Traced in Ghaziabad

Subsequent investigations led police to an illegal manufacturing unit in Meerpur Hindu village, Loni. A raid at the facility resulted in the seizure of huge quantities of finished fake medicines, raw chemicals, packaging material and manufacturing machinery. The operation was carried out in the presence of Drug Inspectors and authorised representatives of the concerned pharmaceutical companies.

Drug Inspectors from Delhi’s North and Central Zones and Uttar Pradesh confirmed that the seized medicines were counterfeit and that the accused had no valid licence to manufacture, store or sell them. An FIR dated December 12 has been registered at the Crime Branch police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

According to DCP Aditya Gautam, further raids are underway to identify and dismantle the entire supply chain involved in the racket.
