Delhi Police Arrest Two Wanted Criminals After Gunfight Near Zakir Husain College

New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested two alleged notorious criminals following a gunfight near Zakir Husain Delhi College on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in central Delhi late Saturday night.

The operation was carried out by the Special Staff team of the Central District police after receiving intelligence inputs about the suspects’ movement in the area.

Accused Identified as Sahil and Avinash

Police identified the accused as Sahil and Avinash, both of whom were reportedly on the Delhi Police’s most-wanted list in connection with recent criminal activities.

Officials said the duo was allegedly involved in a firing incident in the Karol Bagh area, where shots were fired in broad daylight, triggering a citywide manhunt.

Police Laid Trap After Receiving Specific Intelligence

According to police officials, the Special Staff received information that the accused might visit the area near Zakir Husain College either to meet someone or allegedly carry out another criminal act.

Following the tip-off, police teams intensified surveillance and laid a trap around the college premises and adjoining roads.

Exchange of Fire During Attempt to Escape

Officials said the accused allegedly opened fire on police personnel when they were intercepted and asked to stop.

Police sources stated that nearly 10 rounds were fired during the encounter. In retaliation and self-defence, the police team fired back, injuring both accused in their legs before overpowering and arresting them.

Injured Accused Admitted to Hospital

Following the encounter, Sahil and Avinash were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and are currently under police supervision.

Police also recovered illegal firearms and live cartridges from the spot, which were allegedly used during the exchange of fire.

Investigators are now examining the criminal backgrounds of the accused and probing their alleged links with gangs and criminal networks operating in Delhi.

Police are also investigating the motive behind the recent Karol Bagh firing incident and whether the accused were planning another attack before being intercepted.
