Delhi Police Registers FIR Over Attack on ACP Vivek Bhagat During CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the alleged attack on ACP Vivek Bhagat and other police personnel during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar, as authorities intensified their investigation into the violence that erupted during the demonstration.

The FIR has been lodged at the Connaught Place Police Station and includes serious charges such as attempt to murder, rioting, assault on public servants, and destruction of public property, according to police officials.

ACP Vivek Bhagat among officers injured in protest violence

Police said ACP Vivek Bhagat sustained injuries during the clashes after protesters allegedly resorted to stone-pelting and violence near the protest site.

Several other police personnel were also injured while attempting to maintain law and order. The injured officers were taken to hospital for treatment, where senior Delhi Police officials later visited them.

Police examining CCTV and AI-enabled surveillance footage

Investigators have launched a detailed probe to identify those allegedly involved in the attack.

Delhi Police is examining CCTV footage, AI-enabled surveillance camera recordings, and other digital evidence from the protest site to identify suspects and determine individual roles during the violence. Multiple FIRs have already been registered in connection with the clashes.

Officials said strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for attacking police personnel or damaging public property.

Clashes erupted after protest near Jantar Mantar

Violence broke out during the CJP protest near Jantar Mantar after tensions escalated between protesters and security personnel.

According to Delhi Police, protesters allegedly hurled stones and bottles at security forces, injuring several officers, including ACP-rank officials. Police later used tear gas and other crowd-control measures to disperse the crowd and restore order.

The incident has intensified the political confrontation surrounding the ongoing protests over the alleged examination paper leak controversy, with both the government and Opposition continuing to trade allegations over the handling of the demonstrations.
