Delhi Police Arrest 3 Overstaying Nigerian Nationals During Operation VISTA 1.0

New Delhi: Three Nigerian nationals allegedly overstaying in India, including one who was reportedly evading trial in a criminal case, were apprehended by the Special Staff of Dwarka District Police during Operation VISTA 1.0, officials said on Monday.

The operation was launched to identify and verify foreign nationals staying in India beyond the validity of their documents. Following verification, two of the apprehended individuals were sent to the Lampur detention centre, while the third was found to be facing a pending criminal case.

Three Nigerians held during verification drive

The Delhi Police Commissioner launched Operation VISTA 1.0 as a special drive to trace and verify foreign nationals allegedly overstaying in the country.

The operation in Dwarka district was carried out under the directions of DCP Dwarka Kushal Pal Singh and supervision of ACP, Operations Cell, Dwarka, Subhash Malik.

A Special Staff team led by Inspector Kamlesh Kumar was tasked with identifying overstaying foreign nationals and checking whether any of them were linked to criminal cases.

The team conducted enquiries in Uttam Nagar, interacted with local residents and sources and used technical surveillance and human intelligence to trace the three Nigerian nationals.

Two sent to Lampur detention centre

During questioning, police said the three could not produce valid documents establishing their legal stay in India.

After detailed interrogation and verification, all three were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi.

Following the verification process, the FRRO ordered two of them to be sent to the Lampur detention centre. They were subsequently handed over to the detention centre’s superintendent for further action.

The two were identified as Justice, 41, son of Onyenze, and Stanley Devbid, 36.

Third accused was allegedly evading trial

The third apprehended foreign national, Amoney Junior Yau, 32, was found to be involved in a criminal case registered at Delhi’s Narela Police Station.

According to police, Yau had been evading trial in the case and a court had issued bailable warrants against him, with the next date fixed for September 23.

The concerned Station House Officer has been informed about Yau for further legal proceedings.

Police said Yau was previously involved in FIR No. 120/20, registered on March 25, 2020, under Sections 186, 353, 323, 427 and 34 of the IPC at Police Station Narela.

Police continue search for overstaying foreigners

The Dwarka District Police said further efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other foreign nationals who may be staying in India beyond the validity of their documents.

The operation will also focus on verifying the status of foreign nationals who may have pending criminal cases, officials said.
