Delhi Police Recover 604 Stolen Smartphones Worth Rs 1.5 Crore; Three Arrested

New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Dwarka District has arrested three accused in connection with the theft of a large consignment of smartphones being transported to an e-commerce warehouse in Gurugram. During the investigation, police recovered 604 brand-new smartphones worth around Rs 1.5 crore, officials said on Friday.

The case was registered on June 20 after a complaint by warehouse manager Ravi, who alleged that nearly 1,500 smartphones were stolen from a consignment of around 4,500 devices being transported from Delhi to Gurugram.

Driver, Associates Allegedly Stole 1,500 Smartphones

According to police, the truck driver, allegedly in connivance with his associates, removed around 1,500 smartphones during transit before abandoning the truck with the remaining consignment in Gurugram and fleeing the spot.

An e-FIR was registered at Police Station Sector-23, Dwarka, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A special investigation team (SIT) was formed to crack the case.

Investigators analysed footage from more than 200 CCTV cameras along the truck’s route and used technical surveillance to identify a pickup vehicle allegedly used to transport the stolen smartphones.

Raid in Uttar Pradesh Leads to Major Recovery

Police found that the pickup vehicle and part of the stolen consignment had already been recovered by the Knowledge Park Police Station in Uttar Pradesh. The three accused arrested there were identified as Pankaj alias Dhirender, Anand alias Rudresh, and Mohit alias Pundir.

After obtaining production warrants, Delhi Police formally arrested the trio in the case and questioned them.

Based on their disclosures, police raided a garden in Bhighepur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district and recovered 604 brand-new Vivo smartphones allegedly hidden there.

Police Probe Wider Theft Syndicate

According to investigators, the accused have criminal antecedents and are suspected to be involved in similar thefts of mobile phone consignments in multiple states.

Police said the trio allegedly targeted high-value electronic shipments during transit, stealing expensive devices before selling them through their associates.

Investigators added that questioning of the accused has provided important leads about other members of the syndicate. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused and recover the rest of the stolen smartphones.
