While, on one hand, certain Delhi Police personnel are tarnishing the reputation of the force by engaging in corruption, a Sub-Inspector (SI) posted with the Delhi Traffic Police has made an earnest effort to redeem that image. SI Rohtash not only ensured the apprehension of a commercial vehicle driver who attempted to offer a bribe but also had an FIR registered against him under the relevant sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).
According to Delhi Traffic Police officials, the accused identified as Mohammad Asad (24), sought to extort ₹2 lakh from the SI by recording their interaction using a spy camera and a speaker concealed within his wristwatch.
The accused’s commercial Eeco car currently has over 35 pending traffic challans (fines) against it. A senior officer of the Delhi Traffic Police stated that SI Rohtash, who is posted in the Tilak Marg Circle of the Traffic Police, was on duty at the Mandi House Circle on Saturday morning when he stopped an Eeco car passing through the area.
The car was being driven by Mohammad Asad, a resident of Krishna Nagar in East Delhi. When SI Rohtash requested the vehicle’s documents and a ‘No Entry’ permit, the accused attempted to bribe the police officer. He did not possess any of the required documents. According to police officials, the SI firmly refused to accept the bribe.
During this exchange, the accused moved toward the rear of the vehicle and began tampering with the wristwatch he was wearing. He was heard muttering that the police officer was about to demand and accept a bribe. Despite the accused’s repeated provocations, the SI did not accept the money. Subsequently, when the SI proceeded to take him to the Tilak Marg Police Station, the accused began threatening him with the recording he had allegedly captured.
Accused Demanded ₹2 Lakh
During this incident, the accused, Mohammad Asad, informed SI Rohtash that he had successfully recorded their interaction. He demanded a sum of ₹2 lakh in exchange for deleting the recording. Following this, the SI filed a formal complaint against him at the Tilak Marg Police Station. The Tilak Marg Police registered a case and impounded the accused’s vehicle. The accused, Mohammad Asad, has been taken into custody. According to police officials, the accused’s wristwatch was indeed fitted with a concealed spy camera and a speaker. It is suspected that he may have engaged in similar acts of extortion in the past.
