Delhi Police Solve Fake Robbery Case in 4 Hours; Complainant Arrested After Rs 5 Lakh Recovered

New Delhi: Delhi Police solved a purported robbery case within four hours of its reporting, uncovering that the complainant himself had allegedly staged the crime to misappropriate Rs 5 lakh entrusted to him by his employer. The entire amount was recovered from a concealed compartment inside his vehicle.

According to Rohini District Police, the accused fabricated an armed robbery story after hiding the cash beneath the bonnet of his vehicle near the battery compartment.

Claimed Three Armed Men Robbed Him

The case came to light on July 10 after a PCR call was received at K.N.K. Marg Police Station, claiming that three unidentified men travelling in a Thar SUV had robbed a man of Rs 5 lakh at gunpoint near Dwarkadheesh Apartment in Sector 26, Rohini.

The complainant, Gurnaam Singh alias Happy (42), told police that he worked as a driver and helper at a spare-parts workshop in Kashmere Gate. He claimed his employer had asked him to collect Rs 5 lakh from the workshop and deliver it to Sector 14, Rohini.

Based on his complaint, police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and immediately launched an investigation.

    Investigation Exposed the Fake Robbery

A special investigation team analysed CCTV footage, technical surveillance data and reconstructed the complainant’s route.

Police found that no Thar SUV had followed or intercepted his vehicle, contradicting his claims. Despite repeated questioning, the complainant allegedly continued to repeat the same version of events.

During a detailed search of the vehicle, officers recovered a cloth bag containing the entire Rs 5 lakh, hidden beneath the bonnet near the battery compartment. Representatives of the spare-parts workshop identified the recovered cash.

Accused Confesses to Staging the Incident

When confronted with the evidence, Gurnaam Singh allegedly confessed that he had staged the robbery to keep the money.

According to police, he admitted to making a false PCR call after concealing the cash inside his vehicle. During interrogation, he said financial difficulties had driven him to plan the fake robbery.

Police arrested the accused and added relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to furnishing false information and criminal breach of trust. Further investigation is underway.
