Delhi Records Above-Normal Night Temperature, Rain Alert Issued

New Delhi: Residents of New Delhi woke up to warmer-than-usual conditions on Monday as several weather stations in the national capital recorded above-normal minimum temperatures.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Safdarjung Delhi’s base weather station recorded a minimum temperature of 27.1 degrees Celsius, which was 1.7 degrees above normal. Lodhi Road and Ayanagar also reported warmer nights with minimum temperatures of 26.4 degrees Celsius.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Rain and Thunderstorms

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting thunderstorms, light rain, lightning, and gusty winds later in the day and on Tuesday.

Weather officials said changing weather conditions linked to pre-monsoon activity could bring temporary relief from rising daytime temperatures in the city. The maximum temperature on Monday is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius.

No Rainfall Recorded Till Morning

Despite cloudy conditions in some areas, no rainfall was recorded in Delhi till 8:30 a.m., according to IMD data. However, weather authorities warned that thunderstorms and rain activity could intensify during the evening hours.

The Regional Weather Forecast Centre has also predicted gusty winds ranging between 30 and 50 kmph in parts of Delhi-NCR.

Air Quality Remains in Moderate Category

Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category on Monday morning. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 117.
