Delhi Woman Falls in Drain Making Reel, Rescued by Police

New Delhi, Feb 17 — What began as a social media video attempt turned into a life-threatening situation for a 22-year-old woman in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh area on Monday. The woman, identified as Bhawna, accidentally slipped and fell into an open drain while trying to film a reel, according to police officials.

Bhawna walked close to the edge of the drain reportedly to highlight poor sanitation and garbage dumping in the locality when she lost her footing and toppled into the water. The mishap left her neck-deep in the drain before help arrived.

Police Rescue Caught on Video

A police personnel van happened to be passing by and heard Bhawna’s cries for help. Officers immediately stopped and pulled into action. Delhi Police has shared a video of the rescue in which one officer can be seen lowering a rope into the drain and pulling her up with the assistance of colleagues at the scene.

Officials said Bhawna was rescued without any injuries and did not require hospitalization after being pulled to safety.

According to the police, Bhawna was attempting to create awareness about the poor sanitation and garbage accumulation near the drain when the accident happened. The drain, as locals have noted, is often surrounded by trash and lacks adequate safety measures, such as barricades, which likely contributed to the hazard.
