Three Dead, One Injured as Under-Construction Building Collapses in Delhi’s Rohini Amid Heavy Rain

New Delhi: At least three people lost their lives and one person was injured after an under-construction building collapsed in Rohini Sector 16 on Wednesday evening following heavy rainfall in the national capital. Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other emergency agencies launched an extensive operation to search for survivors trapped under the debris.

The Delhi Fire Services received information about the collapse at around 4:20 p.m., following which four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Local residents also joined the rescue efforts, helping emergency personnel remove debris in an attempt to save those trapped.

Three Killed, One Labourer Rescued

During the rescue operation, 42-year-old Ram Kishore was pulled out from beneath the rubble and rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Another labourer, Ravi (35), who worked as a POP worker, was rescued safely.

Officials said the building owner, Ram Dua, was initially suspected to be trapped under the debris, while several labourers were feared trapped after the collapse. Authorities later confirmed that the death toll had risen to three, while one person sustained injuries.

Police Register Case Against Building Owner

Delhi Police have registered a case against the building owner and are investigating the circumstances that led to the collapse. Authorities are expected to examine whether safety norms were followed during the construction of the building.

Heavy machinery, including JCB excavators and Hydra cranes, was deployed to clear debris and assist rescue teams. Hydraulic cutters and specialised equipment were also used to carefully remove concrete slabs without endangering those trapped underneath.

Heavy Rain Batters Delhi

The building collapse came amid heavy monsoon rainfall across Delhi-NCR, which caused widespread waterlogging and disrupted normal life in several parts of the city.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued Red and Orange Alerts, warning of thunderstorms and more heavy rainfall over the next few hours.

Several areas, including Sadar Bazar, Nasirpur, Greater Kailash, Badarpur, Teliwara, Mahavir Bazar, Swarup Nagar and Kushak Road, witnessed severe waterlogging, with roads submerged and commuters facing significant inconvenience.

Authorities continue to monitor the weather situation as rescue and relief operations remain underway.
