Delhi Schools, Govt Offices to Remain Closed on September 11 for BRICS Summit

New Delhi: Schools and government offices in Delhi will remain closed on September 11 in view of the upcoming 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, authorities said on Sunday.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) issued a circular stating that all schools under its jurisdiction, including government, government-aided and unaided recognised private schools, will observe a holiday on September 11.

The Delhi government has also announced a holiday for its offices on the same day. Central and Delhi government offices will remain closed to facilitate security arrangements, logistics and the movement of motorcades linked to the BRICS Summit.

Traffic curbs planned across Delhi

The holiday has been announced amid extensive traffic and security preparations for the international summit, which is scheduled from September 11 to 13.

The Delhi Traffic Police has been conducting rehearsals ahead of the event. As part of its traffic management plan, diversions have been planned at 22 points, while traffic movement will be regulated on more than 35 roads.

On Wednesday, traffic restrictions and diversions were enforced between 10 am and 3 pm during a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Business Forum and the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.

September 12 and 13 fall on Saturday and Sunday, which officials expect will make traffic management comparatively easier during the Summit-related arrangements.

Drones to monitor traffic movement

The Delhi Traffic Police is also using drones for real-time aerial monitoring of traffic across critical stretches of the national capital.

Additional Commissioner of Police Vijayanta Goyal Arya said drone surveillance is being carried out over major intersections, arterial roads and congestion-prone corridors.

The aerial monitoring will help traffic teams identify bottlenecks, track congestion and take timely measures to maintain smoother vehicle movement.

Special attention is also being given to inter-state border points and locations prone to vehicle pile-ups. Drone inputs will help officials assess the length and spread of traffic queues, identify choke points and support on-ground traffic regulation and dispersal.
