LK Advani, Jaishankar, Kejriwal, Sisodia Among Prominent Voters Issued Delhi SIR Notices

New Delhi: Several prominent voters, including former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, have received notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi.

The notices have been issued over discrepancies identified in voter details furnished during the SIR exercise. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has clarified that receiving a notice does not mean that a voter’s name will automatically be deleted from the electoral roll.

Why Were SIR Notices Issued?

According to election officials, notices were being generated for voters whose details showed discrepancies during the verification process. A major category involves voters whose current details could not be mapped with the electoral roll from the previous intensive revision conducted in 2002.

Advani, his daughter Pratibha and daughter-in-law Geetika received notices after their names could not be mapped to the 2002 SIR electoral roll. Advani’s son Jayant, however, cleared the mapping process. All four are registered voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.

Jaishankar and his wife, Kyoko Jaishankar, also received notices under the “unmapped with last SIR” category. Their voter records are associated with the Sunehri Bagh area of the New Delhi Assembly constituency.

Former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife Sudesh have also been issued notices. Other prominent names in the notice lists include Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, CBI Director Praveen Sood and SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey.

Kejriwal, Sisodia Also Among Those Flagged

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and members of his family have also received SIR notices, with their records flagged during the verification process.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, his wife Seema and their son Meer have also received notices. Officials said the notice issued to Meer cited a discrepancy in his parent’s name, while Seema’s notice cited a mismatch in her own name. No specific reason was cited by the poll body for Sisodia’s notice in the reports.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s name was also initially flagged, but her details were subsequently verified and her name was cleared for inclusion in the final electoral roll.

Delhi CEO Clarifies Notice Does Not Mean Voter Deletion

The Delhi CEO’s office has said the notices are system-generated and are intended to enable correction and verification of voter data in the ECINET system.

The office has stressed that no voter’s name can be deleted without giving the person an opportunity to be heard and passing a proper speaking and appealable order. Voters who receive notices can submit their replies and supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO).

The claims and objections phase of the Delhi SIR process is scheduled to continue until September 30, while voters who have received notices have been asked to submit their responses and documents by October 29. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4.

The Delhi CEO office’s clarification means that the notices are part of the ongoing verification process; the final status of individual electoral entries will depend on the documents and information submitted and subsequent verification by election authorities.
