Delhi Terror Alert: Lashkar-e-Taiba Plotting Blasts Near Red Fort & Chandni Chowk

Delhi’s security agencies have sounded a high terror alert after intelligence inputs indicated a possible terrorist attack planned by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.  The alert covers sensitive heritage and religious areas including the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk following warnings of an imminent threat.

Potential Targets & Threat Details

Intelligence sources report that Lashkar-e-Taiba may be plotting an IED-style attack in the heart of Old Delhi. A temple in the busy Chandni Chowk area has been specifically mentioned as a possible target and surrounding religious places have been placed on heightened watch.

Officials believe this move might be an attempt to avenge a February 6 Mosque blast in Islamabad, Pakistan, though authorities are still verifying incoming inputs.

Security Measures Underway

In response, Delhi Police and central security agencies have intensified surveillance and deployment of forces in and around the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and other crowded zones. CCTV monitoring, random checks, and quick-reaction teams have been activated to prevent any untoward incident.

Context: Past Incidents & Ongoing Investigation

The alert comes months after a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort in November 2025, which was linked to a terror angle and killed several people. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been probing that case, and custody of accused individuals was recently extended to aid the investigation.
