Delhi University student injured in acid attack by stalker outside Laxmi Bai College

New Delhi: A 20-year-old Delhi University student suffered burn injuries after a stalker allegedly threw acid at her outside Laxmi Bai College in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar on Sunday evening, police said.

The victim, a resident of Mukundpur and a second-year student at DU’s School of Open Learning, sustained burns on her hands while trying to shield her face. She was initially rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital and later referred to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for specialised treatment.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh, the woman was heading to the college for an extra class when the attack occurred. “The accused, identified as Jitender, arrived on a motorcycle along with his friends Ishan and Armaan. Ishan handed a bottle to Armaan, who then hurled acid at the victim. She managed to protect her face but suffered injuries on both hands. All three men fled immediately after the incident,” the DCP said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Jitender, who also resides in Mukundpur, had been stalking and harassing the woman for several months. Police said the two had argued multiple times in the past after she rejected his advances. “The victim informed us that a heated exchange had taken place between them about a month ago,” the officer added.

Teams from the Crime Branch and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the crime scene. Based on the woman’s statement and medical findings, police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a search for the accused.
