New Delhi: Delhi is likely to receive another spell of rainfall on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light showers at several places across the national capital. Isolated areas may receive moderate rain, while thunderstorms with lightning are also likely during the morning and forenoon hours.
The weather conditions are being influenced by a low-pressure area over southwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas. Several parts of Delhi received rain on Sunday, providing some relief from humid conditions.
Delhi weather today: Rain likely across several areas
Monday is expected to be the wettest day of the week in Delhi, according to the IMD forecast.
Very light to light rain is likely at many places, with isolated moderate showers possible. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected during the morning and forenoon, while another spell of light rain could occur from the afternoon to evening.
The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature may settle between 23°C and 25°C.
The recent rainfall has also resulted in waterlogging in several parts of Delhi. Areas including Geeta Colony and Akbar Road reported water accumulation, affecting normal movement.
Delhi weather forecast from September 8
Rainfall activity is expected to decrease from September 8, with Delhi likely to see partly cloudy skies.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature is forecast to remain between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature could range from 24°C to 26°C.
On September 9 and 10, daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C, while minimum temperatures could stay between 24°C and 27°C.
The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy on September 11 and 12, with maximum temperatures ranging from 31°C to 33°C. No rainfall has been forecast for these two days.
Delhi rainfall: Safdarjung, Palam record significant showers
Delhi recorded significant rainfall during the preceding 24-hour period.
According to the IMD bulletin, Safdarjung recorded 29.8 mm of rain, while Palam received 35.6 mm. The highest rainfall reported in the bulletin was 50 mm at IGNOU University.
The showers also affected parts of the wider National Capital Region. Several key stretches in Gurugram experienced waterlogging, slowing traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of Sadhbhavana Park and adjoining roads on Saturday to take stock of local conditions.
With another spell of rain expected on Monday, commuters in Delhi and the NCR are likely to face wet roads and possible traffic disruptions, particularly during periods of heavier showers.
