New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the video in which Baba Ramdev used the term ‘Sharbat Jihad’. Justice Amit Bansal said that this statement is not forgivable.
After the court’s rebuke, Patanjali founder Ramdev said that we will remove all such videos in which religious comments have been made. The court has also ordered Ramdev to file an affidavit.
Baba Ramdev launched Patanjali’s sharbat on 3 April. He had said on the social media platform X that a company makes sharbat. The money it gets from it is used to build madrasas and mosques. Baba Ramdev had said that just like love jihad and vote jihad are going on, sharbat jihad is also going on.
Hamdard, the company that makes Rooh Afza syrup, had filed a petition against this in the Delhi High Court. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi argued on behalf of the company. Rohatgi said that this is an attack in the name of religion.
Hamdard said- Ramdev’s statement is like hate speech
Rohatgi said that Ramdev has attacked the Hamdard company on the basis of religion through his statement. He called it Sharbat Jihad. Ramdev’s name is famous, he can sell Patanjali products without criticising any other product. This statement has gone beyond criticism, it creates religious division. Ramdev’s comment is like hate speech.
Rohatgi reminded of the case of misleading advertisements and said that the Supreme Court had ordered Ramdev and Balkrishna to apologise to the people. Rohatgi said that confusion was spread among the people through advertisements, and statements were also made against allopathic medicines.
Ramdev made two statements during the promotion of Sharbat
1. The company makes mosques and madrasas from earnings
On April 3, Ramdev posted a 10-minute video on social media X. In the video, Ramdev promoted Patanjali’s sharbat. He said – A company makes sharbat, and with the money it gets from it, it builds madrasas and mosques. If you drink that sharbat, mosques and madrasas will be built.
2. If you drink Patanjali syrup, Gurukul will be built
Ramdev had said that if you drink Patanjali’s sharbat, then Gurukul will be built, Acharyakulam will be formed. Patanjali University and Indian Education Board will progress. I say that this is sharbat jihad. Just like love jihad and vote jihad are going on, ‘sharbat jihad’ is also going on.
When the controversy grew, Ramdev posted another video on April 12. In this, Ramdev said, ‘I posted a video, it made everyone angry. Thousands of videos were made against me. It was said that I have started a new hoax of Sharbat Jihad. What did I start, this is already there. Love Jihad, Land Jihad, Vote Jihad, these people run many types of Jihad. I am not saying that they are terrorists, but it is definitely true that they have loyalty towards Islam.’
Shahabuddin Barelvi said- Baba Ramdev is running yoga jihad
On the Ramdev Sharbat Jihad controversy, All India Muslim Jamaat President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi had said on April 14, ‘Ramdev should promote his Sharbat as much as possible, but should not associate Hamdard Company’s Rooh Afza Sharbat with Jihad.
If they are so in love with the word ‘jihad’ that they have started listing the words like love jihad, sharbat jihad, land jihad, then how will they feel if someone turns around and says yoga jihad, guru jihad, Patanjali jihad?
