New Delhi: A woman tragically died in a fire that broke out in a building in the New Usmanpur neighborhood of northeast Delhi on Sunday.
The Delhi Fire Services received an emergency call about the fire at around 7:01 a.m. and quickly dispatched fire teams to the scene. Firefighters responded promptly with fire tenders, and after over an hour of efforts, they succeeded in bringing the blaze under control by 8:10 a.m.
During the rescue operation, firefighters found a woman trapped inside the building, who was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, is believed to be around 40 years old. Authorities are conducting initial investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
Delhi has seen several similar incidents in recent weeks. On July 4, a large fire erupted at Vishal Mega Mart in Karol Bagh, prompting the deployment of thirteen fire engines. The fire resulted in two fatalities: Dhirender Pratap, 25, an Uttar Pradesh resident seeking employment, and Pawan Gautam, 30, a married IT professional from Aligarh.
Earlier, on June 25, a fire in a chemical factory in Delhi’s Rohini area led to the death of four individuals and injuries to at least three others. Multiple fire engines responded to that blaze as well, and authorities are still investigating the fire’s cause.
These recurring incidents have raised concerns about fire safety standards and preparedness, especially in densely populated parts of Delhi, where many residential buildings lack proper fire-fighting infrastructure.
