Jammu and Kashmir: Kashmiri Shia Muslims staged a demonstration in Srinagar on Sunday to protest against the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The protest saw participants raise slogans against the United States and Israel while expressing solidarity with Iran.

The demonstrators gathered peacefully in key areas of the city, many carrying placards and portraits showing support for Khamenei and the Islamic Republic. Participants called for respect for Iran’s sovereignty and condemned foreign military actions perceived to have led to instability in the region.

Reported Death of Iran’s Supreme Leader

State media in Iran and international reporting indicate that Khamenei, who had led the Islamic Republic since 1989, was killed in joint United States and Israeli strikes on Tehran and other strategic targets. Iran’s government announced a 40-day period of national mourning following the reported strike.

The reported killing comes amid an intense military campaign involving airstrikes and missile attacks that have drawn global attention. High-ranking officials from Iran, including members of the leadership and top military commanders, were also reported among those killed or injured.

Security agencies in the region monitored the demonstration closely to ensure it remained peaceful, and there were no reports of any clashes or disruptions as the crowd dispersed after several hours of protest.
