Dense fog alert in 12 districts of Punjab; visibility less than 50 meters in many areas

Punjab and Chandigarh are currently experiencing fog and mist. The Meteorological Department has issued a dense fog alert for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, Mansa, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Fazilka, and Muktsar today.

Strong winds are also expected today. ​​Yesterday, very dense fog was recorded in Bathinda, with visibility ranging from 0 to 10 meters. Similar conditions prevailed in Amritsar and Faridkot, where visibility was recorded at 50 meters. Due to this, six flights to and from Dharamshala and Delhi from Chandigarh Airport were canceled, while some flights were delayed.

Bathinda was the coldest
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in the state has dropped by 0.1 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, bringing it close to the normal temperature. Bathinda recorded a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state. Halwara recorded the highest temperature at 25.5 degrees Celsius.

New Western Disturbance to become active

According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance is currently located over upper air in North Pakistan and surrounding areas. High-speed jet stream winds are blowing over Northwest India. A new but weak Western Disturbance may affect the Western Himalayan regions from the night of December 17th.

Weather forecast for the coming week

The weather is expected to remain dry for the next 7 days. Night temperatures may drop by about 2 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours, while temperatures will gradually rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the following 3 days. Strong winds with speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour are expected in the state on December 16th.
