Dense fog alert for 18 districts of Punjab: Minimum temperature above normal, Ludhiana remains coldest

Dense fog is highly likely in Punjab and Chandigarh today. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 18 districts. The minimum temperature has increased by 2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, rising to 2.8 degrees above the normal temperature for the state.

Bathinda and Ludhiana recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 6 degrees Celsius. Further increases in minimum temperatures are expected in the coming days. The maximum temperature in Bathinda was recorded at 24.8 degrees Celsius. Strong winds are expected from tomorrow.

Mohali experiences the warmest nights

According to the Meteorological Department, the districts likely to experience dense fog are those bordering Himachal Pradesh. These include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, and Mohali. However, all districts have seen a 1 to 3 degrees Celsius increase in minimum temperatures.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 9.2 degrees Celsius, while Mohali recorded 11.8 degrees Celsius, the highest minimum temperature. Similarly, Amritsar recorded 9.5 degrees, Ludhiana 7.4 degrees, Patiala 8.8 degrees, and Pathankot 8.9 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperature to rise by up to two degrees

According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance affecting the weather in North Pakistan and surrounding areas is still active. It is positioned high in the atmosphere. This has created a weather front in the upper atmosphere, bringing in cold winds and causing weather disturbances.
