Yellow alert for Dense fog in Punjab today; Rain possible in 3 districts

A dense fog alert has been issued for Punjab and Chandigarh today, Saturday. The Meteorological Department in Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert for the entire state. Rain is also possible until December 22. Meanwhile, both day and night temperatures have started to drop rapidly. The minimum temperature in the state has fallen by 1.2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, which will further intensify the cold.

Accident due to Fog 

On Friday, Hoshiarpur was the coldest place in the state, with a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius. This led to road accidents in seven locations, including one involving popular Punjabi actress Raj Dhaliwal, who narrowly escaped injury. In another incident, Punjab Police Inspector Sulakhan Ram’s ambulance collided with a footpath while he was traveling from Gurdaspur to Amritsar, resulting in his death and serious injuries to his daughter.

Western Disturbance to become active today
According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance is expected to become active on Saturday. This will likely cause snowfall in the mountains. An anti-cyclonic system is also forming over Rajasthan. As a result, some areas will experience cloudy skies and rain today.

According to the department, light rain is possible in some parts of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot districts. Similarly, dense fog is expected in some areas of Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Mohali.
