Dense Fog alert in seven districts of Punjab; light to moderate rainfall likely

Dense fog is expected in some parts of the seven districts of Punjab and Chandigarh today. However, the weather will change from Thursday, January 23rd. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in some areas during this period, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds gusting up to 30 to 40 km per hour. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert regarding this.

Meanwhile, the average maximum temperature has increased by 0.5 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours. This is 5.4 degrees Celsius above normal for the state. The highest maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius was recorded at Bhakra Dam, while the lowest temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Amritsar.

According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, dense fog is likely in some parts of Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala, while the weather will remain dry in other areas. Visibility was recorded at 50 meters in Amritsar and 100 meters in Bathinda.

A Western Disturbance will become active tonight:

The Western Disturbance over North Punjab and surrounding areas has weakened. However, a trough line of winds is still present in the upper atmosphere. It is expected that another, more powerful Western Disturbance will arrive in Northwest India from the night of January 21st, which will affect the weather.

Strong winds are blowing at high altitudes over North India. Currently, southerly and easterly winds are prevailing, which has led to an increase in minimum temperatures. Rain is likely in North Punjab on January 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Rain is expected in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, and Jalandhar, while there is also a possibility of rain in Patiala and Nawanshahr.
